Book Games

I'm often a little sad when I come to the end of an adventure in a long book, and I have to leave the characters I have come to know, but you don't have to be. The fun continues. At the end of "Crazy Great Summer," I have included all of the shops on Main Street in Shady Glen. Cut them out, fold and paste them together, and you have a replica of Chisel's city. There is a mini-poster to hang on your wall whose pictures tell the story of the book, there are four pages that when taped together make the Volcano Island Board Game--you make the game pieces as well. Each book comes with a sheet of trading cards--all the same character. There are fifty different sheets. Can you collect all fifty trading cards? If you are collecting them as a school class, email us your school name, grade level and teacher name, something unusual and interesting about where you live, and your school email so other classes can trade with you. We will put you on our "Hedgehoggers-You News" page.

    CD Song Tracks

Instead of singing in the shower like many of the rest of us, Chisel often finds himself singing while walking on his many adventures, and he is usually joined by those animals and things around him. The sounds of the book come to life on the CD between each song, whether it be words from the characters, the sound of the ocean, owls in the night, crickets in the forest, or even the clouds whispering advice. As you read the book, listen to the CD, and the stories come to life! Or listen to the CD by itself for a funfilled journey. Come join me, and Chisel too, in Chisel's adventures inside his world. See you there!

          *****
    Yeah home is where
    You pop that popcorn
    Lay on the couch
With a good ole movie on
    Check the fridge
In the middle of the night
    When your tummy says
    "gimme some food"
          *****
    Yeah, free as a bird
    They watched them fly
As they soared and they dove in the
    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful sky
    Yeah beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, sky-
          *****
    Into the blue
    Wandering sky
    Whispering secrets
    When I pass by
          *****
Yo do lo ol le he
Yo do lo ol le he
Yo do lo ol le he ho!
Yo do lo ol le he ho!
Yo do lo ol le he ho!
          *****
    Look at the wonders
Like the grass in the wind
    Like the sun
    Setting in the sky
    Shadows, like paintings
From the trees in the night
    Or the moon
Like a bulb in the sky
          *****
    Chased by a bear
    And the bear is here
    And we're tired of crawling
    JUST EAT US BEAR!
          *****
    I look at the moon
    Looking down at me
    And smile at the twinkling
    Stars I see
    I feel the breeze
    As it cools my cheeks
    And I thank heaven
    For the apple trees

    And the sun shines
    Down on them
And they drink from the streams
    That the clouds have sent
    And I thank heaven
    For the apple trees
          *****
    If you look
    At the world
    From the place
Where we look at it now

    You will see
    Differently
    You will see
    Things aren't what you thought

    Come with us
    Take a ride
    See the world
    Through a whole different light-
    From a whole different view-

    For it's howwwwwwwwwww
    How you look
    What you see
    Yeah it's howwwwwwwwww
    How you look
    What you see
    Come with me
          *****
    Listen to the breeze
    Talk to the trees
    Ask Mr. Summer
    What he has in store

    Wave to the night
    Sing to the moon
    Wonder if tomorrow
    Brings a friend or two

    Yeah, laugh with the clouds
    Dance with the wind
    Close your eyes and glide
    Through your mind's blue sky
          *****
    Built a boat
And we know how to sail it
    Built the best ship
    On the seas

    Now we'll sail
    Off into the sunset
    Set a course
    For the open sea
          *****
    Well how can't you smile
    On a day like this
    With the sun shining down
    And the grass loving it

    Pine trees pointin'
    At the clouds overhead
    With the clear blue sky
    And the birds lovin' it

    Yeah, how can't you smile
    I just can't say
    It's a beautiful world
    It's a beautiful day!
          *****
And I am on another adventure
To spy on the moon rising up in the sky
And I'll salute the sun in the morning
And say Hello to the clouds up high
          *****
    I don't sing good
But it's what I like to do
And my toes like the sound
And the beat of the music

    And I don't always rhyme
But it's what I like to do
    So I sing out loud
To the trees that enjoy it
          *****
    Once again
    In a big bad place
    And once again
    I'm scared

    Once again
    I find myself
    In a big
    Uncertain world

    Yeah once again
    I just don't know
    If I can
    Really make it

    I don't know
    If deep inside
    I have the strength
    To take it

    Once again
    I look within
    And see what
    I am made of
          *****
    Well look at the unicorn
    Look at the houses
    Look at the things
    That I have found

    Look back in time
    To all that has happened
    Now the history
    Speaks out loud

    The years are whispering
    To my soul
    They're telling of
    The times untold

    The stories of
    Who lived before
    Are flowing from
    Each page's door
          *****
Well I've made mistakes in life
    But this I can say
    I always try
    To do what is right
When I stumble along my way

And I'm sorry for my faults
    And I'm sorry for
    The things I've done
    But I'm thankful for
All of the way I've come

    And I've fought the battles
    And I've fought the war
    And I'll keep trying
    Just one time more
    And when I fall down
Well I will always get up
    Until I am told
    Well you're forgiven son

    And I'm looking for
    The hidden sun
    Cause after the rain
    I know the sunshine comes
    You just gotta wait
    And stand up straight
    And then pretty soon
    All the clouds have gone
          *****
All alone in a cave like this
And I can feel the loneliness....

    Where's that sun
    And where's that sky
    That make me smile
    As the day goes by

    Where's my friends
    In the cold dark night
    When the stars don't shine
    And there is no light

    Yeah, where am I and
    Where have I been and
    Where am I going
    And where's the end

    Where's there a hand
    That I can hold
    That lights the fire
    Down inside my soul...
          *****
And when the rain clouds are stormin'
And the sun is a scorchin'
When somebody says they don't like my face

I look at all the grass around
I hear the birds making sounds
I look at trees that seem to smile at me

I grab the corners of my mouth
And pull them up towards my ears
Until they finally stay there all by themselves

And then the world's not so bad
And I feel luck comin' back
And life is wonderful all over again
          *****
This is to all the people
    Who never thought they could
This is to all the people
    Who never thought they would
This is to all the people
    Who don't have faith enough
    They don't trust
    Just quite enough
    They don't know

This is to all the people
    Who have a pounding dream
This is to all the people
    With never dying needs
This is to all the people
    Who work like rabid dogs
    Through sweat and pain
    Goals to attain
    They never stop

    Keep right
    Don't change your course now
    Set your sights
    Aim in at your goal
    Hold tight
    Don't ever let go

    Steer high
    Don't look at the ground
    Always try
    Never say I can't
    By and by
    You'll make it somehow

    The peaks of mountains
Are never reached by easy steps
    The valleys down below
    Require no test
    And those with hope
Do know that they can never rest
    They just fight on
    Till the battle's won
    Victorious

    In olden days
The deathly seas were hard to cross
But people sailed in boats for weeks
    Willing to risk the loss
They knew that if they doubted
    Then they would never start
    So look ahead
    Into the wind
    Follow your heart
          *****
    Never is easy to do
Ain't somethin' I look forward to
Often brings a tear to a good man's eye
Always is hard when the time comes by

Remember all the things that we have done
Always have them to ponder on
Funny how the time is finally gone
Hard to say the words but the time has come

Well, Gotta say good bye now
Cause I know you have to run
    Gotta think of the times
    That we did have

    Gotta fight back
    When the tears almost come
    Gotta hold my head
    Up in the air

    Yeah, gotta smile
And think of things you've said
    Gotta say good friend,
    Good-bye to you

Never lived a year when I didn't see
The flowers not bloom, or the seasons change
Only one thing that I know for sure
Everything will change a little more...

...Can't stop the smoke rising in the air
Can't stop the snow falling everywhere
The world keeps turning, have to turn with it
And we should always remember this

    Home.
